We are focusing on developing the best VotingAid™ solutions for any important elections around the world and the most popular solutions for decision making over the Internet. We are proud to be granted as the Best Young Company in Finland 2010 by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

Who are we?

We are ZEF®. We develop and sell web-based marketing, sales and data collecting solutions, which are delivered by a SAAS model through the Internet. Our 500+ customers improve remarkably their business by using our ZEF engines as self-service. The ZEF method has been patented in USA.

We deliver four different ZEF services: 1) VotingAid™ Application, 2) Sales Engine, 3) Livezhat and 4) Evaluation Engine. Thanks to our services our customers have showed exceptional success stories. For example, during the last parliamentary elections in Finland our VotingAid™ Application reached even half of the registered voters. It benefitted considerably on the results and gained democracy. And our Sales Engine attained even hundreds percent growth on sales of the online shops of our customers.

Our background

We have developed many of the most popular comparison applications in Finland. For example, our VotingAid™ Application was used by half of the registered voters in the parliamentary elections 2011 and achieved a great effect improving democracy in the Finnish politics.

How does the VotingAid™ work? First, the candidates give their opinions on current political issues. Second, the voters give their opinions on the same political issues. As a result the voters get a list of the candidates who are most suitable for them based on comparison of their answers. We produced a Puppy Engine with a newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, which reached over 2,000,000 Finnish users to find a dog breed suitable to their needs. The application broke the record of the number of users in comparison applications in Finland and has permanently affected to the popularity distribution of different dog breeds.

The Career Test for a youth magazine Suosikki.fi got 600,000 users within one week. It is the fastest spread comparison application in Finland.

Our solutions have brought extensive growth in sales of the online shops of our clients. They help customers to select the best products and services for their needs. In one case our service was able to collect contact data of 100,000 potential customers for a customer, which organizes academic preparation courses. This kind of data can be collected and printed out into very useful and illustrative reports.

Through the VotingAid™ Application our customers have collected opinions on current political issues from millions of Finnish citizens. Through the Puppy Engine we got a very reliable (2 million opinions) data of what characteristics of dogs are valued in Finland. Our service is used by many of the largest market chains, banks, mobile phone operators, and online shops in Finland. Some clients are for example: Nordea, Deloitte, ISS, Bonnier, Alma Media, TeliaSonera, and hundreds more.

ZEF Solutions has grown 40 % annually already for six years with a good operating profit (even 24 % in the last two years). The contracts are standing order based SAAS-contracts. A vast majority of our customers are very satisfied long-term continuous users of our services.

Our mission is to create: “Success stories to our customers and positive atmosphere to our staff”. This can be seen in our daily working. We struggle to create new ideas to find successful applications for our current and potential customers. At the same time the staff atmosphere and general feeling is very important to us.

Corporate responsibility

Corporate responsibility plays a very important role in our company. We work in a field where we often handle trade secrets and other confidential information of our customers. We have a high-level security policy to assure security of our customer information in any possible way. In addition, we work to confirm ultimate consumer anonymity. ZEF is known as a reliable and responsible company.

We take our social responsibility in many ways. Our service has carried out several study reports and found solutions with different interest groups for difficult social challenges. For example, together with PwC and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, we did a countrywide survey on the depth of the past recession. And together we found a key solution to help in coping with the conditions. We support certain organizations like the Red Cross.

Our responsibility on environment is seen for instance in our paperless office. All communication, information flow, invoicing, processes and messages are managed and cared electronically.

The team

The key executives of ZEF: Bo Harald is a Chairman of the Board, and the most important personal ally and support of the CEO. Formerly Bo served as an Executive Vice President of Nordea Bank and is known as the famous pioneer of online banking development and its breakthrough. With this experience, Bo has acquired a crucial vision of web-based sales and customer services and how to proceed with ZEF services. Young but very experienced Jaakko Alasaarela, MSc in Economics, has served ZEF as a CEO for 7 years. Jaakko was granted as the Best Young Entrepreneur in Finland in the national Timangi 2010 competition. Adjunct Professor Esko Alasaarela, a member of the Board, has developed and takes care of the patented ZEF method. Technical Directors Jarkko Tervonen and Juha Koskela, who have collected a complementary and immense knowledge of different programming languages and architectures, have developed the breakthrough technology of ZEF engines and assure that they work with fastest and most user-friendly way.
